Passenger and Pedestrian Modelling at Transport Facilities

چکیده

The modelling of passengers and pedestrians at transport facilities remains a complex issue to be addressed by industry within a transportation context. Passenger and pedestrian movements are a key component in all transport systems including public transport operations, interchange facilities and airport operations. Pedestrian performance is also a significant issue for design of retail centres, sporting grounds and special event locations. However, until recently passenger and pedestrian modelling was not integrated into traffic and transport simulation packages to accurately reflect the complexity of design. The recent release of VISSIM 5.1 incorporates a pedestrian simulation component that utilises Helbing’s Social Force model for pedestrian movements. PTV has undertaken the modelling of passenger movements at one of the largest and more complex rail stations within the Melbourne metropolitan region. North Melbourne station is to undergo an upgrade of facilities to better manage the significant interchange of passengers between regional and metropolitan rail systems. In addition a change in service planning will impact on the interchange movements at the station. The modelling addressed implications of a number of key components including platform location, access, grade, shelter and adjacent transport systems to examine the suitability of the design for passenger requirements. Various performance indicators have guided the design and operational refinements to optimise passenger conditions at the transport interchange.

Modelling Pedestrian Circulation in Rail Transit Stations Using Micro-Simulation

Rail transit with its high passenger capacity and high efficiency has become one of the preferred alternatives to automobile travel. This is evident in the increasing patronage of rail travel especially in urban areas. As a result, many railway stations experience high levels of pedestrian congestion especially during the morning and afternoon peak periods. Traditional design and evaluation pro...

Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models

Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...

Benefits of new and improved pedestrian facilities – before and after studies

Walking is an essential mode of transport. New and improved pedestrian facilities promote walking and provide greater access and mobility within our communities. The NZ Transport Agency has recently updated the procedures for the evaluation of pedestrian improvement projects. The benefit factor applying to new pedestrian trips was increased from $0.50 to $2.70/km, making pedestrian facility imp...

Time prediction model of subway transfer

Walking time prediction aims to deduce waiting time and travel time for passengers and provide a quantitative basis for the subway schedule management. This model is founded based on transfer passenger flow and type of pedestrian facilities. Chaoyangmen station in Beijing was taken as the learning set to obtain the relationship between transfer walking speed and passenger volume. The sectional ...
